Whoever intentionally cuts off that pathway to life through the blood is to have his life cut off. Here we are told to behold something special in the Dalet Mem, the blood. The entrance to life is in the liquid. In the writings of Moses in Leviticus Chapter 17 verse 11 we read:įor the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the alter to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Mem is the picture of liquid, mighty waters like a tsunami or gentle rain that makes the desert bloom or Living water. Hey is the picture of the outstretched arms and means to behold, or to reveal, or the Holy Spirit.ĭalet is the picture of a doorway and indicates a place of decision, an entrance to life or death, or a place where change can take place. This gets particularly interesting when we add the mystery found in the word Hadam which is spelled Hey Dalet Mem. So the first mystery revealed in the letters is that the Goel, by either redeeming or avenging, is following the voice of authority who is God Himself and by doing so is lifting up the name of the LORD. He is not a vigilante trying to seek vengeance on his own terms. Lamed is the picture of the shepherd’s staff and points to the voice of authority, or to have authority or the tongue. Gimel is the picture of the camel and means to lift up or to lift up the name of the LORD.Īleph is the picture of the ox and represents the strong leader, the head of the family, or God the Father. Let’s first look at the letters of Goel which are pictographs to see what they might reveal to us. Goel is spelled Gimel Aleph Lamed. If he was found guilty of intentional murder, he was to be turned over the nearest relative for justice. The Goel Hadam was the nearest relative and was to be the one to perform the execution according to the word of Elohim, blood for blood. So if the slayer fled to the city of refuge he would be granted a trial and protection if the death he caused was unintentional. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. In the book of Genesis which is the first book of our ancient text, Elohim gives us His view of murder. The word Goel in conventional Hebrew means to redeem or to avenge. Hadam is translated as the blood and refers to that which when shed causes death. The LORD also spake to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses That the slayer that killed any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. We pick up the account of the Goel Hadam in the ancient book of Joshua in Chapter 20. There we see that Yahweh speaks to Joshua telling him to instruct the people. In verses 2 and 3 we read: Who is the Goel Hadam? What is his role and what are his obligations? Will anything in the Hebrew letters tell us more about him? Will there be another connection to Messiah? Let’s find out. ![]()
